The Western Union Prepaid MasterCard® is issued by BankFirst, Sioux Falls, SD, pursuant to a license from MasterCard International Incorporated. BankFirst; Member FDIC.

To spend money, you must load funds onto your Western Union Prepaid MasterCard. You can load funds at any participating Western Union Agent location or by using Direct Deposit. When you use your Card, the amount of each transaction, including any applicable service fees, is deducted from your account balance. The Cardholder Agreement terms and conditions apply.

You will need to give this information when you enroll for a Card:
  • Name
  • United States address
  • Home phone number
  • Date of birth (you must be at least 15 years old to enroll for a Card)
  • U.S. citizen: Social Security Number
  • Non-U.S citizen: personal tax ID or passport number


You must be at least 15 years old to enroll for a Card.

There is a limit of one account per person as well as a limit of one Card per account.

A U.S. citizen enroll for a Western Union Prepaid MasterCard. But, must be a U.S. resident to enroll. A non-U.S. citizen must provide a personal tax ID or passport number to enroll.

The Western Union Prepaid MasterCard must be shipped to a physical and verifiable U.S. street address.

Currently, your Western Union Prepaid MasterCard does not build your credit. We do not report transaction history to credit bureaus.

Your Western Union Prepaid MasterCard can be reloaded at any participating Western Union Agent locations in the United States. At the Agent location, complete the grey Prepaid Services form, then hand your Western Union Prepaid MasterCard and your cash payment plus the $3.95 Load Fee. Your payment is typically sent within minutes.

There is a minimum load of $30 and a maximum load of $950. The total balance on the Western Union Prepaid MasterCard cannot exceed $2,500 at any time. Other restrictions apply. See the Cardholder Agreement for details.

Only the cardholder or their employer, through Direct Deposit, can load funds to a Western Union Prepaid MasterCard. Your Card must be present when you load funds at an Agent location.

You may have unlimited Direct Deposits to your account per month, but your Western Union Prepaid MasterCard balance cannot be more than $2,500 at any time. You may only load a Direct Deposit from one employer. If you have more than one employer, only one can Direct Deposit funds onto your Western Union Prepaid MasterCard. Only one employer may send Direct Deposits to your card. You do not need a bank account. Your Direct Deposit funds are available to spend at 11:30 a.m. Central Standard Time on the day that your deposit is made to your Card.

If you spend more money than you have on my Western Union Prepaid MasterCard then generally the purchase will be declined. But, sometimes a merchant puts an item through without prior authorization. If your purchase is more than the amount in your available balance, you will be charged a fee of $25.00 for each purchase that overdraws your account.

Once you choose a PIN, you may use the Card to obtain cash from any ATM that has the MasterCard®, Maestro®, Cirrus® or STAR® brand. A fee of $2.00 applies to each ATM transaction, in addition to any fees the ATM owner may charge.

You can take out cash from an ATM as many times a day as you would like, however, you may not withdraw more than $500 total per day. Remember, there is a $2.00 fee for each ATM withdrawal, plus any fees that the ATM operator may charge.

You can use your Western Union Prepaid MasterCard to pay for gasoline at the pump, but a pay-at-the-pump transaction involves a pre-authorization of at least $75. If you do not have $75 on your Card, your Card will be declined. By paying for your gasoline inside, only the actual purchase amount will be withdrawn from your Card balance.

Your Western Union Debit Card can be used for cash withdrawals at any ATM machine displaying the STAR® brand in the United States or as a debit card anywhere STAR cards are accepted by entering your four-digit PIN. A cash withdrawal fee of $2.00 plus applicable ATM operator fees apply.

To check your balance, you can access your account to see the last three months of transactions and your current balance. Or call the toll-free number on the back of your Card to hear your available balance or the last five transactions on your account.

Statements are available monthly for each month in which there is at least one transaction, and no less than every three months.

The Western Union® Prepaid MasterCard® is issued by BankFirst, Sioux Falls, SD; Member FDIC, and is subject to the Cardholder Agreement terms. Issuance of the Western Union Prepaid MasterCard is subject to successful identification verification and approval in accordance with applicable law and bank policy. Non-refundable Activation Fee of $9.95 collected, plus a $30.00 minimum load. Future loads subject to $3.95 Load Fee. Monthly Account Maintenance Fee and certain other fees, charges and minimum and maximum load requirements apply and are subject to change as outlined in the individual Cardholder Agreement. Obtaining A Card: The USA PATRIOT Act is a federal law that requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify and record information that identifies each person who opens a Card Account. What this means: When a consumer opens a Card Account, BankFirst will ask for the consumer's name, address, date OF birth AND other information that will identify the consumer.The consumer will need TO provide his / her Social Security number IF a U.S.citizen OR personal Tax ID OR passport number IF a non - U.S.citizen.BankFirst may also ask TO see your driver 's license OR other identifying documents.Western UNION may provide the information given TO the Western UNION Agent clerk TO BankFirst. 2 May ONLY be used TO get cash at ANY ATM that displays the MasterCard®, Maestro®, Cirrus® OR STAR ® brand. Cash Withdrawal Fee OF $ 2.00 plus applicable ATM operator fees apply. Most ATM networks require a certain withdrawal amount.
